NSW: Train to stop in a matter of days if dispute goes on

A strike by a group of rail maintenance workers has entered its seventh week and is
likely to affect Sydney train services in a matter of days.

The 250 workers at Maintrain's Enfield depot met today and flatly rejected an offer
from management to partially protect their entitlements.

The workers are responsible for heavy maintenance of the state's passenger trains.

The State Rail Authority says the failure to resolve the dispute means train services
swill be affected within days.

Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union state secretary PAUL BASTIAN says the union
warned Maintrain's negotiating team on Friday that the offer to partially protect entitlements
would be rejected by members.
