FED: New figures show lending finance stable
CANBERRA, Dec 11 AAP - Australias borrowing habits remained relatively stable in October
with a slight drop in housing finance offset by a moderate rise in the level of personal
loans.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics said its trend estimates for lending to people buying a
home to live in dropped 0.8 percentage points in October to $4.49 billion, from $4.526 billion
the previous month.
But personal finance lending was up by 0.9 percentage points to $3.561 billion in October
from $3.531 billion in September.
The trend estimate for commercial finance remained relatively unchanged at $14.445 billion
in October.
The ABS said fixed commercial lending commitments dropped by 1.1 per cent while revolving
credit commitments increased by the same amount.
